A Chinese woman from the Yunnan Province traveled 1,500 miles to help save 100 dogs from an annual dog-eating event in a small city in Zhejiang. When faced with the decision of saving 100 dogs from a Chinese dog-eating festival or spending the money on her own life, Ai Li chose to save the dogs. Her story is both heartbreaking and inspiring.

Ai Li grew up living on a farm where many villagers owned dogs for hunting and guarding against predators. But because of her father’s influence, she became disgusted with dog killing and would break down in tears whenever she saw a dog killed for food.

In 2014, a Chinese woman went 1,500 miles from Beijing to Yulin, China to save 100 dogs from an annual dog-eating festival. It is legal for consumption of dog meat in China, but it is not in the woman’s culture. The woman does not want to see these innocent animals suffer and wait for someone else to take action.
