One of the good habits she told me about is to start the day in peace. She explained that old ladies should not wake up worrying, angry or scared. The entire day can be improved by a peaceful morning. When the heart takes the day with light steps, the mind is lightened. The body requires more care in old age. Simple food, sufficient water, time resting and sleep can make a woman feel better. She explained that health is a gift, and old ladies should not overlook it.
Another habit that makes people happy, according to the old lady, is to remain in touch with people. Loneliness makes the heart heavy, she said. Comfort can be achieved by talking to family, friends, or nice people. Sweet few words can make an elderly woman feel remembered and appreciated. She also told me old ladies ought to keep a-moving. The body is not as strong as it used to be, though it requires gentle movement. The tendency to sit alone may cause weakness in the body and sadness in the mind.

The other habit that she discussed was to keep the mind busy. She asserted that nothing could fill the mind of a blank mind but unhappiness. Old maids must have their brains preoccupied by not dangerous and useful things. This renders them alive and desired. A vivacious mind will spare the heart undue anxieties.
